Most of my family and friends know I’m not exactly a patient person. So imagine a scenario where I have to wait almost 4 months just to be able to share one of my shoots. And the reason for this wait you might be asking…? Well, the lovely ladies over at My Table Magazine, a local local food and entertainment publication, wanted to do an article on yours truly for their October/November issue and use Annie’s shoot for its first reveal in the magazine which I added to the bottom of this post. Annie reached out to me a little while back expressing interest about being on the blog. After a few emails back and forth and a meeting at her storefront Cacao & Cardamom in the galleria area we talked a little more about her beginnings into becoming a chocolatier, what she does on her time off, and who she spends it with. After a walk through the shop and a box of chocolates for my wife we set a date and planned for our shoot.
Being of Pakistani descent, family is a big part of Annie’s life. Annie’s boyfriend Dominic, who happens to be a chef himself, also joined us for the shoot along side her parents, two sisters, and her brother in law for a family dinner at her parents beautiful home in west Houston. Being middle eastern myself and a huge fan of south asian foods, I was a little excited about everything the family was preparing. Between the tour of the home by Annie’s dad and the smell of the food being prepped taking over the house, it was amazing to sit and watch the family dynamic during the shoot. And what exactly did they prepare? Pani Puri, Shashlik, Papri Chaat, and some Gajar Ka Halwa.
I always get asked if I get to eat the food on these shoots. The answer is normally yes, and plate you see at the end of this shoot was mine. I ate all of it… and it was delicious.
