Say hello to Chef Philippe Gaston of Cove Cold Bar, a very talented French Chef. His place inside Haven has been open just a little over a year and it has already landed on the Chronicle's top 10 restaurants in Houston. So if you haven't been there yet, you owe yourself a visit. When Philippe is away from work he usually likes to get together with friends and have a cook-off of sorts at his place. Almost every weekend a group of friends which consist of other local chefs and foodie friends get together and either brings or makes interesting dishes for everyone to enjoy. For our shoot Philippe invited over Alvin Schultz who some of you might remember from Masterchef season 2, Lea McKinney from El Gran Malo and soon to open El Big Bad, Liz Fenton, and Philippe's roommate Ben who are both big foodies to join in on the fun.
Philippe prepared a very flavorful Kimchi stir fry, Liz prepared and brought over a plate of Kimbap, and Ben made some chicken with brussels sprouts, pine nuts, golden raisins, and crispy chicken skin. And Alvin? Alvin made 3 dishes! He started with gulf oysters with escabeche snow, then it was onto pastrami pretzel crust pizza, and to celebrate Ben's birthday, he made a PB&J birthday cake for everyone to enjoy. Ben also happens to be a beer buff so the group got to enjoy some very tasty beers at his recommendation with the dishes. The pictures below is how it all unfolded.
